Introducing Supervised Essay Writing For English Advanced HSC

In my discussions and observations of students, I have come to the conclusion that now more than ever before, students are in desperate need of more practiced writing and a far more structured approach in the crafting of their essays.

Although almost 50 percent of class time at Educare Sydney  is focused on writing students still need to produce completed essays at home for me and their teachers. Schools are so overburdened with assessment and exam deadlines not enough attention is given to this essential component. With this in mind, I have incorporated a provision for enrolled students that will allow for the practice of essay responses on their set tests with my supervision during term and before the trial and HSC examination.

Anxiety, emotional- blocks, procrastination and the beckoning of social media and friends have impeded the tasks at hand. As such, I have put together a format that I believe will alleviate stress and improve effective essay writing. allowing me to circulate amongst each and every student, hopefully ironing - out the impediments which hamper effective essay writing.

Classes

These classes are only for enrolled students.

Once a term before assessments a Sunday will be allocated for the physical production of essays with support from me.

Ultimately the classes will cover essays for all modules.

Classes will be held:

Before term assessments

During the Easter recess (pre-trial time)

June-July recess before the Trial examination

Classes

The classes would be run in the following fashion.

1. NO COMPUTERS OR PHONES

2.All essays and any notes must be on hard paper. The student’s will require only their novels, poetry texts and writing paper.

3.Students will be given an essay question to write and produce over the 4.5 time period, with a break of 30 minutes in between.

4.It is mandatory that all essays are completed by the student during this time-frame.

5.Submission to the student’s teacher of this essay will also be encouraged, so the students can also receive feedback from their teachers and show themselves as dedicated to the process of learning.

Why four hours?

Students need an in -depth essay before they can begin the process of 40-minute practice essays. The calibre of essay writing required at the preliminary stage should take at least four hours- leaving time enough for feedback.

Cost

I am always conscious of the enormous economic commitments brought to bear on families as such, I have endeavoured to keep costs down for parents.

The total cost per student for a Sunday -sessions are calculated at $70 dollars per hour. ( 60 minutes ) ((excluding lunch break )

This is a considerably reduced price so that all students can benefit.

Please find the timetables set out so you can consider whether this may be beneficial for your child.

Please note, for the trial examination – students are able to select one or more sessions relating to their modules.
